United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Bullhead man charged with two counts of Assault by Striking, Beating and Wounding and Aiding and Abetting Assault by Striking, Beating and Wounding was sentenced on April 17, 2012, by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Alex Little Eagle, age 30, was sentenced to 3 years of probation on each count and a $20 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
Little Eagle was indicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, and Aiding and Abetting those assaults by a federal grand jury on January 11, 2011. The conviction resulted from an incident that occurred on April 24, 2010, at Bullhead between the Little Eagle family and their supporters and the White Eagle family and their supporters. During the fight, Alex Little Eagle and others unlawfully assaulted the victims by striking, beating and wounding them. On November 11, 2011, Little Eagle pled guilty to a Superseding Information.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.
